Significantly Enhanced Operational Reliability

PANZERKABEL® from Dresden-based manufacturer Bildkraft deployed by the Bundeswehr, NATO’s REPMUS exercise, and critical infrastructure sectors – new tactical fiber-optic cable meeting IP67 standards

Dresden, September 5, 2026 (tpr) – When data lines must function reliably under extreme conditions, armed forces and operators of critical infrastructure increasingly rely on steel-armored fiber-optic cables from the Dresden-based brand PANZERKABEL®. Manufacturer Bildkraft reports a significant surge in demand from the military, industry, and critical infrastructure sectors for these ultra-robust, interference-resistant specialty cables. A new addition to the product range is a waterproof, tactical fiber-optic cable meeting the IP67 standard, designed for use in field conditions.

This summer, the company secured a major order for the custom production of tactical, waterproof fiber-optic cables (IP67 standard) for a critical infrastructure application in southern Germany. The order comprises approximately 40 cables with a total length exceeding 14 kilometers. These newly developed cable types have since entered serial production and are now a permanent part of the PANZERKABEL® product portfolio.

Also during the summer, Bildkraft supplied cables for the military IT infrastructure supporting NATO’s REPMUS exercise off the coast of Portugal. REPMUS is one of NATO’s largest exercises focused on unmanned maritime systems and communication infrastructure under operational conditions. Bildkraft supplied various fiber-optic cables through an international procurement agency. Prior to this, Bildkraft had equipped several hydroelectric power plant control centers in Austria with PANZERKABEL® products to enhance operational reliability against electromagnetic interference and mechanical damage.

The Bundeswehr is also among the company's customers. This places Bildkraft within a particularly demanding procurement environment. As one of Germany's largest public-sector clients, the Bundeswehr imposes rigorous standards regarding technology, information security, and reliability. Consequently, securing a contract in this sector carries significance that extends far beyond the mere monetary value of the order. This standing has been further validated by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), which has assigned Bildkraft an NCAGE code and granted it NATO Tier 2 status.

“PANZERKABEL® are the high-end solution for safety-critical scenarios involving long signal runs,” says Jörg Heinze, Managing Director of Bildkraft. “For a modest cost premium over standard cables, they offer significantly enhanced operational reliability—a factor that is increasingly becoming the deciding one in defense and critical infrastructure applications.” This segment is growing by approximately 30 percent annually at Bildkraft, with an increasingly significant share coming from industrial and security applications.

Thanks to its own warehouse in Germany, Bildkraft can deliver even large quantities within a few days. In addition to the military and critical infrastructure sectors, the company—under the PANZERKABEL® brand—supplies broadcasters such as Deutsche Welle, as well as the broadcast and event technology industries.
